Vern Parker was a painter and wood carver active in the 1950s and 1960s. He created western themed images of horses, cowboys and Native Americans. He worked in oils and watercolor, creating small works and huge murals. His carvings were popular on many ranches and horse farms of the time, often adorning signs and entranceways. Sadly most of this work is very difficult to come by and can be expensive (a large mural sold for $8000) as they have such appeal to collectors of western items as well as those interested in art created by persons outside of normal art circles.
In the 1950s and 1960s Petley produced many of his images as postcards, while Vern produced a smaller number himself as Vern Parker Enterprises, Inc. The Petley cards all contain a number code for each image. This card is number K516. I do not know how many different cards they produced. They can be found, but it takes some effort as they are somewhat rare. For more information about this interesting artist, there is a website devoted to him from which we gathered much information. If you use Petley as a key word with his name you will find it and it is well worth your time.
